Our Pinellas FMNP Continued Education Committee decided on these goals at our first meeting...
Community
Outreach, Personal Growth, and Socialization. For now, we are focusing on
Pinellas County and our group of graduated FMNs. We have exhibited the FMNP booth and educated the public about Florida’s natural systems and wildlife at five environmental events, and one field trip to Gainesville. We currently have 11 members.
Message from Jeanne Murphy: I encourage everyone on the committee to go through our county volunteer program. As county volunteers, the FMN graduates' hours are recorded, which helps Pinellas County Extension prove that we are doing great things around here and it helps the county show that we are saving taxpayers' money through wonderful volunteers.
In addition to the other wonderful activities that the FMNP grads are doing, members of this committee are also assisting me with initiating the 'Roaming Naturalist' volunteer position. These volunteers walk the grounds facilitating environmental education with our Extension and Florida Botanical Garden visitors. At the end of the year, any Pinellas county volunteer who has 50 hours or more is invited to our Extension Volunteer Recognition Luncheon--always a fun time!If you are a FMNP graduate from our county or a neighboring one, we hope that you will be able to join us at our next meeting. We meet at Pinellas county Extension office from 10-11ish the second Tuesday of every month. If you are interested in attending, please let me know. If you are unable (or, gasp, uninterested), please still consider joining us on our field trips and other events that we organize. This committee is for you!
