Florida Master Naturalist Program Final Projects serve
several purposes........
The Final Project allows students to take
their training to the highest level by synthesizing information into an
environmental education program. Working as a group, students meld ideas and creativity with others.
By sharing Final Projects with the class during the final day of
training, students observe and learn
from the ideas of others and share their interpretive products. Some
Final Projects developed by Master Naturalists have been implemented by
Instructor organizations, community nature areas, and grade schools.
The following final project examples (from various Freshwater Wetlands
Graduates) illustrate the utilization of these products:
- The North Sebastian Conservation Area 2002 Interpretive Plan
- A "Science For Seniors Course," that focuses on created wetlands at Okeeheelee Park
- Powerpoint presentation and laminated color handout that describes wetland plants and folklore for Wakodahatchee Wetlands
- The Delray Oaks Natural Area Strand Swamp education booklet for elementary school students
- A Power Point educational quiz on wetlands for middle school students
Tips & Tools for developing FMNP Final Projects...............
- Educational Brochures as FMNP Final Projects
Brochures are an effective method of providing
educational messages and can be designed as FMNP Final Projects.
Ideally, brochures designed as Final Projects should be suitable for
distribution and we encourage Master Naturalist Program graduates to
pursue this educational goal to the benefit of their FMNP Instructor
organization or through other appropriate venues.
A document describing tips for designing educational trifold
brochures (click here) and a
corresponding trifold brochure template, that can be customized for
FMNP Final Projects (click here),
is provided in order to streamline the development of educational
brochures.
As part of the Final Project process, we
request that brochures be reviewed by an appropriate expert and that
the expert is acknowledged in the brochure. Your FMNP Instructor can
help you find an appropriate reviewer. We also ask that FMNP Final
Project brochures include the official FMNP logo as provided on the
template so that individuals recognize the collective achievements
and contributions of FMNP graduates and Instructor
organizations. Finally, we ask that you provide an electronic copy
of your brochure to the FMNP program office
so we can post your
brochure on a web page that will serve as a library of educational
brochures for use by schools and educational organizations
throughout Florida.
