Dear FMNP Instructor: The University of Florida General Counsel has determined
that, when you are teaching the Florida Master Naturalist Program (FMNP),
you are legally considered volunteers assisting the University of Florida.
This is good news and means that during field trips you are eligible for
liability protection through the University of Florida. To assist the University in controlling its liability, it
is important that you have all of your students sign Liability Release Forms
for each field trip. There are two Liability Release Forms approved through
the University of Florida General Counsel. One form specifically addresses
those field trips that go to areas owned by local, state, or federal
government (public lands) and the other form is for field trips on privately
owned land (such as a privately owned ranch or managed forest). At the end
of the course, signed Liability Release Forms should be mailed to the Office
of Conferences and Institutes (along with the completed student evaluation
forms, Student Record form, unused certificates, patches, pins or workbooks)
where they will be kept on file. |
