Chinsegut Wildlife & Environmental area & Nature Center
recruits Volunteers
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)
is recruiting volunteers to assist in a variety of activities at Chinsegut
Wildlife and Environmental Area and Nature Center (CWEA) in Brooksville,
FL (Hernando County).
The range of volunteer opportunities at Chinsegut include:
working in the Nature Center office, assisting with interpretive and
conservation education programs, eliminating invasive exotic plants and
developing and maintaining trails. The FWC is also looking for volunteers
interested in documenting the history of Chinsegut and taking photographs
to document the many special events held at Chinsegut.
According to Nature Center director Kristin Wood,
"Volunteers bring an array of talents which greatly assist us in serving
the public while multiplying our accomplishments in state land
management". Currently the Chinsegut Nature Center is open by appointment
only or during special events such as Pioneer Day or the Welcome
Back Songbirds Festival .
CWEA is unique in the FWC’s wildlife management system. It
is the only area managed specifically with the goal of providing
conservation education programs to the public. Chinsegut also has the
distinction of having one of the largest contiguous (and the
southern-most) tracts of old-growth longleaf pine in Florida.
A volunteer orientation and training program will begin
May 1, 2004. To learn more about educational programs and events at
Chinsegut, contact Kristin Wood at (352) 754-6722 or
