Green Anole
Anolis carolinensis

Body- green to brown, with long breakable tail, 8"
Identifiers- pointed snout, grainy scales, toe pads
Adaptations- changes color; either green or brown
Status
- common in most of Florida
Distribution- coastal S.E. U.S.A.
Habitat- hydric hammocks, moist forests, urban areas
Diet- slowly stalk insects, spiders, and small crabs
Fun facts- called "American Chameleon" but not a true chameleon species
- males expand brightly colored throat fan; attracts females, warns competitors
- a native Florida species, 10 other exotic species have been reported
- this specimen turned a blade of grass into a custom fit sun lounge
