Size- 12-28" leaves
Identifiers- epiphyte, plants often found in clusters
- leaves wide at base; stiff, scaled
- flower stalk 12-24"; floral bracts usually red
Adaptations- flowers all year                     
Status
- Endangered; found in Central and South Florida
Distribution- Florida, West Indies, Mexico, Central/South America
Reproduction- violet flowers, seed capsules
Habitat- pinelands, hardwood hammocks, cypress swamps
Fun facts
- frequent before attacked by Mexican Bromeliad weevil
- plants in deep shade can grow leaves up to 40"
- also called Stiff Leaved Wild Pine and Quill-leaf
