Size- 8-9"
Identifiers- dark gray body, black cap, rust under base of tail
Adaptations- song mimic, slightly curved bill
Status
- common migrant, rare N. FL. breeder
Distribution- breeds; eastern U.S.A.
- winters; Carolinas, Gulf Coast to tropics
Habitat- thickets, urban areas
Reproduction- 4-5 aqua eggs, cup nest
Diet- gleans insects, berries
Fun facts
- strong feeding instinct, aids other parents
- 2-sided voice box creates cat-like "mew"
- only mimic neotropical migrant
