Size- approx. 1 inch
Identifiers- smudged white and black pattern
Adaptations
- females are darker; males have blue scales at wing base
Status
- found throughout Florida, mainly Aug-Dec in N. FL.
Distribution- Gulf coast, West Indies, Mexico, S. America
Habitat- disturbed open areas, hammocks edges
Host plant- mallow, broomweed (Sida acuta), Indian hemp
Fun facts
- Common checkered skipper found in North and Central FL.
- caterpillar green, hairy, with brown head
- fast, low flier
