Identifiers- 1-3', most with yellow petals and dark centers
Adaptations- tiny disk flowers look like small bugs
Status
- 12 native species in Florida; one (C. integrifolia) endangered
Distribution- most of U.S.A.
Habitat- open forests, rangeland, urban/roadside areas
Fun facts
- Florida State Wildflower
- sometimes called Tickseed after the small brown disc flowers
- flower heads provide food source for seed eating birds
- add color to beautification projects
