Size- 6-9feet tall
Identifiers- large lanceolate leaves, terminal tri petal purple flowers
Adaptations
- thick rhizomes, tall growing
Status
- found in most Florida counties, absent in NC & NW Florida
Distribution- Florida, Alabama, Lousiana
Habitat- marshes, cypress ponds, ditch banks
Fun facts
- perennial, plants die back in winter
- black bears sometimes eat the lower stalks
- related to banana plants
