Size- Leaves; up to 8" long, Flowers; 1.5"- 1.7"
Identifiers- epiphytic, lip with a purple spot or all white (alba)
-flowers various shades of yellow, copper, or green
Adaptations
- long stemmed inflorescence with up to 45 flowers
- pseudobulbs
Status
- found central to south Florida
Distribution- Florida, Bahamas, Cuba
Habitat- common on Live Oak, Red Maple, Bald Cypress, Pop Ash, Pond Apple
Fun facts
- wild plants are protected by law; private growers propagate and sell it
- the purple spot on the lip attracts pollinators
- often found growing on trees along waterways
