Identifiers- 7", similar to mockingbird
- black face mask, black wing and tail
Adaptations- heavy hooked bill
Status
- resident breeders in Florida, population declining
Distribution- North America
Reproduction- 4-6 eggs, cup nest
Habitat
- open forests, rangeland, urban areas
Fun facts
- also called butcherbird; thinks it's a hawk
- impales frogs, snakes and small mammals on barbed wire or thorns
- very territorial
- will cache food
