Body- brown with black guard hairs, 16-18"
Other Characteristics- smaller ears and tail than cotton tail
Status- found throughout Florida
Reproduction- usually 3 young, up to 10 times/year, ground nest
Distribution- southeastern United States coastal plain
Habitat- fresh and salt water marshes
Diet- marsh plants
Sign- snipped vegetation cleanly cut, tracks smaller than cotton tail
Fun facts - semiaquatic mammal, good swimmers
- excellent swimmers, climbers, and runners (speeds exceeding 30 mph)
- males will fight other marsh rabbits for territories
