Body- tawny, buff belly, 59-98", up to 150 lbs.
Other Characteristics- long tail with black on top and tip
Status- Endangered species
Reproduction- 2-3 kits, sheltered den
Distribution-originally throughout the S.E. U.S.A. now limited to south Florida
Habitat- uplands, forced onto wetlands
Diet- white-tailed deer, rabbit, raccoon, wild hog, armadillo, birds
Call- screams, growls
Sign- scrapes, food caches, large 4-toed clawless print
Fun facts
- Official State animal
- estimated less than 100 present in Florida
- Texas cougars introduced to boost gene pool
