Body- gray 40", wing span 72"
Other Characteristics- white cheeks, red crown
Status- Florida resident, State Listed Threatened
Reproduction- 2 eggs, large nests in vegetation
Distribution- N. America, south to Cuba
Habitat- marshes, wet prairies, pastures, open woods
Diet- insects, small mammals, roots, grain 
Call- low loud musical rattle
Fun facts
- mating dance: leap with wings spread, bow to partner
- run to become airborne
- Whooping Crane (G. americana) larger;  white body;
  cheeks and crown red; primaries black.
