Identifiers- 6" flattened body, body white with brown mottling
- 3 detached dorsal spines, fleshy fins with protuberances
Adaptations- arm-like pectoral fins, throat ventral fins
Status
- occasionally found in Florida waters
Distribution- Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Western Atlantic coast,
eastern Atlantic African coast, mainly tropical surface waters
Habitat- shallow marine surface waters in sargassum weed
Fun facts
- looks like sargassum sea weed (macro algae)
- drifts with Gulf stream
- utilizes heavy camouflage, does not swim very much
- sold commercially for aquariums
