Body- male; multi-colored, both crested, 18"
Other Characteristics- blue-green wing speculum, male; red bill
Status- Florida resident (non migratory)
Reproduction- 8-15 eggs, cavity nester
Distribution- eastern and western U.S.A.
Habitat- swamps, wet prairies, marshes, agricultural
Diet- invertebrates, insects, seeds, aquatic plants
Call- rising whistle
Fun facts
- will nest in man-made nest boxes
- sponsa, Latin,  "waterfowl in wedding garment"; Wedding Duck
